Barbecue restaurant Porkchop Chicago BBQ at 6341 N. Broadway in Chicago was significantly damaged by fire Saturday afternoon, August 30, 2025. A firefighter suffered a minor injury. The fire started in the rear of Porkchop Chicago BBQ, but quickly extended to the attic, according to Chicago Fire Department District Chief Scott Shawaluk. Chicago police, fire, and EMS responded about 11:56 p.m. Friday, August 29, 2025 to a report of a shooting in the block of 7700 South Essex Avenue in Chicago. Inside the apartment, police discovered a 25-year-old woman with two gunshot wounds in the abdomen, and one gunsthot wound in the left leg. The woman was transported by Chicago Fire Department EMS paramedics to University of Chicago Hospital where she was pronounced dead. A 23 year-old woman was discovered with two gunshot wounds in the right leg and one gunshot wound in the left knee. She was transported by EMS to an undisclosed hospital.
